Flexible Instructional Days

FID’s are Flexible Instructional Days that school districts can use when students are not in school due to emergency circumstances. Schools that apply can have and use five FID’s in one school year. Penns Valley Area School District is using these days in addition to traditional snow days this year. Whenever school is closed this school year due to inclement weather, we will be following the procedure listed below if the day is declared an FID.

The possibility of using an FID will be announced 1-2 days in advance. When there is a possibility of an FID being used the next day, your child will bring home his/her school iPad and any papers needed so he/she can zoom and complete his/her work on the FID. An official announcement that an FID is being used will be made by 6:00 am on the actual day. You will be notified by the district through a phone call and/or email.

Once an FID is announced your child will need to join our class via zoom by 8:15 am that morning. We will take attendance, read a story, and teach our phonemic awareness and language arts lessons for the day. Your child can then leave zoom but will need to complete two independent literacy centers and finish a writing assignment at home.

Your child will need to join our class via zoom again at 9:30 am. At this time, we will take attendance and teach the math lesson for the day. Once the math lesson is over your child can leave zoom but will have two independent math centers to complete on his/her own.

The last zoom meeting your child will need to join for an FID is one for our special class if we have one scheduled on that day. Special classes are gym, music, and art. Our special schedules are posted on our websites, and we will let you know the special schedule for the day if an FID is implemented. These zoom meetings will be directly with the special teacher. Attendance will be taken during these meetings as well.

In order for your child to be counted as present for an FID he/she must:

1. Join both of our classroom zoom meetings and join the special meeting (if

applicable).

2. Complete and turn in the literacy and math centers and the writing paper by

the end of the FID if electronic or turn them in the next morning at school if

paper.
